Sunday, October 13: Didn’t do so great at St. Clairsville GNCC! Crashed on the start, landed on my shoulder…then got tackled by my bike! Went to ER…nothing broke but need MRI to see about rotator cuff.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped out. Kaleb Williams for driving me to hospital. Donna Macan for picking me up (and buying me pizza!), Samantha Steiner and Lissa for tending to me when it happened and collecting my gear. Big John for keeping me calm and directing the medics. Savanna White Yount family for checking on me and taking my bike to the pits. The whole Donna Ashburn crew (and Tina Marie Wicker and more) for tearing down my pits…just a lot of good racing family folk out here!
Thursday, October 17: Went in for MRI on my shoulder this morning…forgot to remove knife from my pocket. As they slid me in to the tube, the knife flew out and stuck to MRI machine! FREAKED the technician out! It was cool.
Friday, October 18: The rotator cuff is comprised of 3 muscles. One is completely torn and hanging (which also attaches bicep muscle). The other 2 are mostly torn and barely holding on. The shoulder bone is bruised so deep that there is a crack running down it. The doc said, “You should be in pretty severe pain” to which I replied, “Oh trust me!!” Anyway – meet with ortho surgeon next week and then slice-n-dice the week after Ironman. Thanks for all the prayers!
